Beauty Battle - "So Not Gelling"

As we've mentioned in past Beauty Battles, the purpose of these videos is for each of us to try out the same product, then keep our opinions to ourselves until we can share our thoughts with each other while the camera is rolling.  This Beauty Battle features the Nutra Nail Gel Perfect Manicure...

First of all, a big thank you goes out to one of our fellow bloggers, CottonCandyINK, for suggesting this Beauty Battle (check out her blog here).  We love hearing all of your suggestions, so PLEASE keep them coming!

What can we say?!?  We had really high hopes for this product, but as much as we love all things nail polish related, this system was a complete FAIL for us.  If you've tried the Nutra Nail Gel Perfect, let us know your thoughts.  We're also curious to know if there's a better at-home gel nail system that is less complicated, so drop us a comment if you've found one that you like!

Thanks so much for watching!

Love it or Leave it...Leopard Tights!

So we know that the Kardashians (especially Kim) have not been getting good press these days.  Oh the drama!!  It's so much craziness going on with that family, but somehow we still feel the need to "Keep Up With the Kardashians".  Well at least Kourtney!  She was spotted out in New York recently in her signature style...a black romper.  But this time it was done with a bit of a twist.  She added leopard print tights to her ensemble!

Would You Wear Leopard Tights Like Kourtney Kardashian?
via

We don't know the brand that Kourt is wearing, although we are sure that they come with a steep price tag.  But we did find an affordable dupe at TOPSHOP for only $16.00, if you guys are interested.

via

What do you think about leopard tights?  Too much or just enough to take an all black outfit to the next level?  We say "love it", but they have to be the focus, so we wouldn't dare wear these with any other print.  Keep the outfit simple and the let the tights do the talking.  So, love it or leave it???  We can't wait to hear what you think!

MAC Holiday Mini Haul

Products Purchased:
Mineralize Eye Shadow in Snow Season
Paint Pot in Morning Frost
Iced Delights Eye Bag in Silver

Just to clarify, the mineralize eye shadow and the paint pot are from the Glitter and Ice Collection and the Iced Delights Bag is actually from the Ice Parade Collection.  They release so many collections (one right after the other) that it's hard to keep them all straight!

Included in this video is a little mini "Low-Down" on MAC's Big Bounce Eye Shadow in Spread the Wealth and a Paint Pot in Nubile.

Stay tuned because Jayme will definitely be back with another video to give you the full "Low-Down" on all of these products.

POTM...November Edition

As you know we started our Polish Of The Month post back in August as seen here and we have really enjoyed picking a special polish every month since we love nail polish.  This month it just so happens that both of us picked a polish from OPI's recent Muppets Collection...

November Polish Of The Month

Jayme's Pick - OPI's Designer...De Better
This metallic foil is actually really hard to describe because it's unlike any polish that I've seen. Depending on the light it looks like a light silver base or a light champagne base and has gorgeous flecks of copper (or bronze or red also depending on the lighting). But it applies easily and is absolutely stunning on your nails. Perfect for this time of year!

Mendi's Pick - OPI's Pepe's Purple Passion

This color really looks more like a deep red to me than a purple, but Pepe's Red Passion just doesn't have a "ring" to it.  Regardless, I love this deep hue with a hint of shimmer.  I will say that this polish has an oddly bumpy texture that I haven't typically experienced with other OPI polishes.  Even with a topcoat of Seche Vite, the texture remained the same, but it hasn't stopped me from loving it!

Are there any particular polishes that you were loving this month??  Drop us a comment to let us know.

'Tis the Season! HLNC & SEPHORA Event

The holiday season is upon us and what better way to get into the spirit than with a "Holiday Girl's Night Out" with Her Late Night Cravings and our favorite beauty destination...SEPHORA!!!  We had so much fun at our last event with our friends at our local Regency Square Sephora (see recap here) that we are teaming up again with Sephora for another fun and festive private after-hours event.  See below for details!

We hope that all our local girls will join us on Sunday, December 4th at the Richmond area Sephora at Regency Square Mall at 6:00pm. Talented make-up artists will be on hand to give you holiday inspired makeovers, or just to answer your questions and pass on some beauty knowledge.  There will also be refreshments, music and lots of chances to win some awesome "goodie" baskets (all you have to do is make a purchase of any amount and your name will be entered into the raffles).  And let us tell you that the baskets last time were filled with a bounty of wonderful products!!  We will be there, of course, to talk about anything and everything beauty related and we will be showcasing some of our favorite products and all of the fabulous holiday gift sets.

Please email us at herlatenightcravings@gmail.com by November 30th to get on the guest list.  Or you can just click the link up at the top of this page that says CONTACT US, then click on our email address to automatically initiate an email. Please let us know YOUR name, email address and the names of ANYONE that you would like to bring along, including their email address (if you have that information).  The more the merrier!!!

We can't wait to see you all there!  Let HLNC and Sephora help with your holiday shopping!

And if you are not in the Richmond area for the event, please know that we will be thinking of you!  We hope to announce soon that we might even have a little something special to send to one of our out of town readers!  It is the season of giving after all!!

November Birchbox...Finally Arrived!

This month we have been on pins and needles waiting for our Birchbox.  We really tried to stay away from any spoilers, so we had no idea what was coming our way!  But for some reason the post office wanted to taunt us and it took way longer than normal to receive our boxes.  And as it turns out, we got identical boxes this month.

Please meet our November Birchbox...

Birchbox is a monthly subscription delivered to your doorstep with 4-5 luxe beauty samples for $10 a month.  If you sign up, be sure to let them know that HLNC sent you.  And if you already have a subscription we'd love to know what you got in your box.

Beauty Faux Pas...Guilty or Not Guilty??

All we ask is this...KEEP WATCHING!  We get around to our point, we promise!  We decided to have a little fun with this. We're all a little guilty at times of committing beauty faux pas'...right?!?

According to Beautylish, which is an amazing source for beauty tips, tutorials and reviews, here's the lowdown on Beauty Etiquette 101:

1. Makeup at the Table
Ever look at your reflection in a knife to apply lipstick after a meal?  Yikes!  This tacky move is a no-no.  If your primping requires a mirror, excuse yourself from the table with an old-fashioned "I'm going to powder my nose."  Lip balm or gloss are easy to apply in public -- no reflection needed! -- but never follow up with the rest of your face.  Bottom line: Food and touch-ups don't mix, so unless it's a quick swipe of lip moisturizer, excuse yourself to the restroom.

2. Friendly Advice
It may seem awkward to highlight the fact that someone you know has lipstick on her teeth, flyaway strands, or eye gunk in her inner corners, but the truth is these little mishaps are common and potentially embarrassing.  The right thing to do is discreetly let your fellow gal know so she can fix it immediately.  Bottom line: If you see something, say something.  Friends don't let friends walk around with beauty blunders.

3. Hair Bands on Your Wrist
Strapping your brightly colored hair tie around your wrist looks incredibly childish.  It may have been a wise move while you were playing soccer as a kid, but now you carry a tote just for these kinds of items.  Even worst?  When these very same bands are tangled with clumps of strands from your mane.  Gross!  Just as you clean your makeup tools, you should tidy up your hair accessories regularly.  Bottom line: Save the space on your arm for bangles and bracelets and pop the elastic into your purse or pocket where it belongs.  And for some reason you must wear a hair tie on your wrist, try Goody Doublewear Elastics, which are disguised as bracelets.

4. Nail Touch-Ups
Nail maintenance is messy no matter which way you slice it.  Unless you are in the privacy of your own home or at a salon, avoid clipping, picking, peeling, painting or filing your nails.  All of these actions result in some kind of residue (even filing leaves dust!).  Bottom line: Unless it's an emergency (ie: you just broke a nail), leave it for another time.

5. Phone Calls in the Salon
We've all been there; you're getting a blowout and a lady under the drier is loudly telling her bestie about her man troubles through her mobile.  Or perhaps you are getting a pedicure, and the woman next to you is sharing her boss's latest outburst to a coworker via her Blackberry.  Unfortunately, cell phones are not just a problem in movie theaters.  Spas and salons used to be relaxing places where you could gossip with your technician and fellow customers.  Now, you have a front-row seat to other people's personal phone calls. While we are all crunched for time and squeezing in a catch-up conversation seems smart, disturbing other ladies' beautifying time is not.  Bottom line: Don't be a Chatty Cathy.  Instead, politely end phone calls as quickly as possible of text quietly.

So what do you think?  Are you guys guilty of any of these beauty faux pas?  We were obviously dramatic in our skit, but we do (on a smaller scale) break some of these rules and that's OK with us...it's part of who we are.

A HUGE thanks for watching this video, since it is a slight departure from what we are used to posting!  :-)

GUEST POST: Love, Lindsey

It's been awhile since we've brought you guys a guest post from a blogger friend of ours, so we are super excited today to welcome Lindsey to HLNC.  A perfect compliment to our fall-inspired post yesterday over at Lindsey's blog, which you can see here, she brings to us a Stuffed Apples recipe that looks absolutely scrumptious and appropriate for the upcoming holidays!

Hello Her Late Night Cravings readers!  My name is Lindsey, I blog over at lovelinds.com, mostly about DIY projects.  The lovely Mendi and Jayme agreed to let me do a guest post for you all.  I must say I am beyond thrilled about this, I even busted out my favorite Fall recipe.  My mother-in-law gave this to me last Christmas, and I have not stopped making these ever since. These are beyond easy, and are a sure way to impress guests!  Let's dive in!

You will need:

Apples (McIntosh apples are the best)
Brown Sugar
Butter
Granola/oats/raisins/dried fruit/anything of the sorts
Shallow baking dish
Lemon juice

--Preheat the oven to 425 degrees--

Step One -- Cut off the top of your apples

Step Two -- Core out your apples.  I used a grapefruit spoon, a regular spoon works just fine too.

Step Three --  Put a little bit of lemon juice inside the apples so they don't turn brown.

Step Four -- Line the insides with butter.  Remember, whenever you bake to use real butter not margarine.

Step Five -- In a separate bowl, mix in granola, oats, and dried fruit (I used raisins).  For every tablespoon of those ingredients, add a tablespoon of brown sugar.

Step Six -- Spoon in the brown sugar, oats, etc. into the apples.

Step Seven -- In a small dish, pour about an inch of water into the bottom, this keeps the apples from breaking open in the dish.  Place the apples in, and stick them in the oven.  Bake for 20 minutes or until soft.

Step Eight -- Serve and enjoy!

What is better than stuffed apples during the Fall?  I will tell you, absolutely NOTHING!  I know you will all love these as much as I do.  Good luck baking, readers!

xoxo Lindsey
